Pinch’s Place is nestled in a quiet, scenic little pocket of Castle Shannon.
We share our neighborhood with the Castle Shannon public library, Myrtle Elementary School, Chestnut Street Park, Mt. Lebanon Golf Course and a stretch of railroad track that is traveled several times a day by a good old fashioned train!
“Our Train”, part of the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad, passes through our neighborhood giving a shout out to the residents with a long loud pull of the whistle. Our guests here at Pinch’s Place, especially our repeat guests, soon learn that the sound of the train whistle means it’s yummy treat time here at the Lodge! All guests, led by Pinch, come gather round me at the sound of the whistle excitedly awaiting a special treat.
TRIAN WHISTLE + “PINCHY OUR TRAIN!!!” = YUMMY TREAT FOR ALL
“Pinchy our train!” started out as a technique I used to desensitize Pinch to the noisy train whistle. Pinch, being a rescue dog, reacts fearfully quite often to things unfamiliar to her (new people/places, loud noises, etc.). I wanted to be sure the whistle from our train was not perceived by Pinch as something to fear but as something good, something to be happy about. So the tradition of train whistle = instant yummy treat was born and continues to this day.
